I’m pretty surprised by how far off the creature/noncreature count is in white for your cube. Standard cube theory says that the non-green, non-blue colors should have approximately even creature/noncreature splits.
Was this just what was necessary to have both a critical mass of aggro creatures and also the value/wincon cards for midrange and control? Or is there that great a shortage of solid white spells?
Hmm, I looked around the MTGS Cube forum for a bit and found that most of those cubes have a similar creature/spell ratio in white to mine. (To be fair, I was looking at the ones that had totals listed). So if that’s conventional cube wisdom, it doesn’t seem like many are following it.
I don’t think that white has a shortage of anything, for what it’s worth. But there are plenty of great creatures that act like spells at least in part- Harrier, Relic-Warder, Eternal Dragon, Karmic Guide, Pianna- and I do think that if you pushed the number of spells, you’d tend to favor control.
The only reason I can think of that my cube would lack spells in this section is that some cubes run 2-3 more white planeswalkers. But that’s not a huge number, and doesn’t get anywhere close to a 50/50 split.
